Steve Roberts Biography

I am Steve Roberts.  I’m sixty-two years old. My wife Jana and I have been married for forty-one years and we have two sons.  Additionally, we have two grandchildren, an eight year old granddaughter and a five year old grandson.

I worked for BellSouth Corporation for thirty-five years and am now retired.  Early in my career I was a lineman and had the opportunity to work on open wire routes.  The last two years in the line crew were spent teaching climbing school.  The later part of my career (twenty-nine years) I worked in our Marketing office.  While in Marketing, the company sent me through a masters program for Project Management at George Washington University. I held a variety of positions in Marketing and concluded my career as a Project Director.

I began collecting insulators when I was a lineman.  During my years in Marketing my collecting became dormant.  After I retired I happened to do an internet search for insulators, and thus initiated my return to collecting.  Initially, I collected whatever struck my fancy; however, over time my collecting has migrated toward west coast glass.  I now collect E.C&M’s, C.E.W.’s, C.G.I.’s and California’s.

I have been a member of the NIA for eight years. During that time I have observed many people who have given of their time and talents to insure that our organization continues to remain optimistic and vibrant.  If we expect this trend to continue, then we must be willing to serve.  I have been asked to serve as the Secretary of the organization.

It is my desire that my participation in serving the organization will add value to the future of the NIA.
