AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft AG) means General electricity - insulator fabrication in German. The company was founded as Deutsche Edison-Gesellschaft für angewandte Elektricität in 1883 in Berlin by Emil Rathenau and was a German producer of electrical equipment. It became Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft in 1887 Initially producing electrical equipment including AC electric transmission systems. After World War II Headquarters moved to Frankfurt am Main.
