Wednesday June 10th bus tour starting at the host hotel - 9:00AM

We are offering an optional tour that will take participants to the Golden Spike National Monument, the Northrup Grumman (formerly Thiokol) Rocket Garden, and the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge Visitors Center. This bus tour will take about 7 hours, beginning at the host hotel at 9:00 am.

Golden Spike National Monument:

This will be the first stop where full scale replicas of the two original Central Pacific and Union Pacific locomotives (Jupiter and No. 119) are rolled out for a live demonstration. The original locomotives met in Promontory, Utah on May 10, 1869 when the East and West tracks of the Transcontinental Railroad met. A “golden spike” was driven to commemorate the event. There are replica poles and insulators from the Transcontinental Telegraph on display as well. There is a museum, gift shop, historic presentations, etc.

Northrup Grumman (formerly Thiokol) Rocket Display:

A short distance away is the Northrup Grumman (formerly Thiokol) solid rocket motor plant with a large full scale display of many of the rocket motors Thiokol has built over the years. The display includes various satellite motors, defensive missiles, a full size Space Shuttle booster motor, etc.

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge Visitors Center:

Finally, there will be a stop at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge Visitors Center. The visitors center offers interactive exhibits, a wetland diorama and other displays featuring information on birds and wetlands of the Refuge, and a nice gift shop. The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is a 74,000-acre National Wildlife Refuge in Utah, established in 1928.

A box lunch will be provided. The cost is $40 per person and includes admission. The tour is limited to the 1st 50 people that sign up. A second bus can be added if there is sufficient interest early enough. A waiting list will be maintained in case of any cancellation.

Tally sheet to send along with payment for the tour
