UNITED   STATES   PATENT   OFFICE

FRED M. LOCKE, OF VICTOR, NEW YORK.

DESIGN FOR AN INSULATOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,323, dated November 25, 1896.

Application filed September 25, 1896, Serial No. 607,004.  Term of patent 7 years.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED M. LOCKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Victor, in the county of Ontario and State of New York have invented and produced a new and original Design for Insulators, of which the following is a specification reference being had to the accompanying drawings, showing a part thereof, in which--

Figure 1 is a side elevation of an insulator embodying my design.  Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof.

The leading feature of my design consists in a concave-convex disk, surmounted centrally upon the convexity by a substantially cylindrical boss, grooved peripherally, more or less, substantially as shown, all being of considerably greater width than its total height and creating a low-down broad-spreading insulator.  It is also provided with one or more skirts or petticoats within the concavity and with a recess extending upward into said boss.

A is a concavo-convex disk surmounted by a boss or crown a, erected upon its convex outer face, of substantially cylindrical form, and provided with a peripheral groove b on line substantiality

parallel to the plane of the edge of said disk.  Interiorly within its concavity said disk is provided with one or more skirts or petticoats c on lines vertical to the plane of its edge, and with a central recess d, extending up into said boss, and which receives the top of a suitable insulator-pin as a support.

The whole structure constitutes an insulator of low height and broad spread, the height being much less than the width, and the greater width or spread increases the distance between its edges and the central support and proportionally increases its insulating power.  This creates a broad low-down insulator with a crown and with a convex surface sloping outward and downward from the crown to the edges.

What I claim is--

The design for an insulator substantially as shown and described.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 15th day of September, 1896.

            FRED M. LOCKE.

In presence of--

Z. C. CURTIN,

M. A. WILBUR.
